Bonchance "Fats" Nelson
He knows when to hold them
Bonchance Nelson was a professional gambler and card sharp, who grew up in New Orleans and made a living playing cards in that city and on the riverboats plying the Mississippi.
He’s a fat, soft-handed city boy who would never have dreamed of heading West away from the comforts of civilisation – which made it the perfect direction to run when he got caught cheating in the Grand Mississipi Poker Tournament.
Casting “confusion” on the mooks guarding him allowed him to get away with his life – and with the prize money for the tournament – but he lost most of it in the river swimming for shore, and he spent most of the rest on a fast horse to try to stay ahead of the hounds, and a double-barrelled shotgun in case they caught him.
The riverboat bosses he embarrassed and ripped off have put a large price on his head, payable anywhere on the Mississipi – attached living body optional.
